Resident Firefighter/EMT Volunteer
Firefighter / EMT's live in one of four stations for a commitment of two years. Most often, these residents are just starting out in their fire service careers and have little or no training. Many of these residents are full-time students and also have jobs outside of the department. Frenchtown Rural Fire District offers summertime jobs for most of the residents who wish to be involved in our fuel mitigation program. As part of our department, resident volunteers receive full training necessary to do the job. In exchange for lodging, residents are assigned to a rotating shift of one day on, two days off, with the option of swapping with other residents.

While on duty the resident firefighter is responsible for ensuring apparatus readiness, maintaining station facilities, and responding on calls. Other projects may also be assigned. Residents drive fire apparatus to all calls, and operate within the scope of their training. While on shift, resident firefighters must be ready for response, in uniform, and at their assigned stations. Our program is designed to strengthen leadership and management skills in addition to building the self-esteem and confidence that are essential to personal success.

Community Firefighter Volunteer
Volunteers are also crucial to our department. Volunteers live within the district boundaries and respond on shifts: one night a week and one weekend a month. We currently have approximately 60 volunteers who support the local communities they live in. Many of our volunteers commit over 200 hours a year to their community as a volunteer in a non-paid position. Volunteers are also provided the same opportunities for continuing education and training as the resident volunteers.
